Another way to store away



Nowadays, most of the food in the shops is wrapped up in plastic wrap or packed in plastic boxes. Even some fruits and vegetables are in it! That’s ridiculous! It seems almost impossible to be ecological, seeing all those packages. Almost. There are lots of zero-waste shops where you won’t find food wrapped up in tons of plastic foil. You can buy there anything, really. There’s just one tiny problem – you need something to put the food you buy in. Sounds bad? Don’t worry – we’ll show you how to store your food properly!


Mason jars

They don’t just make food look appealing, but they are also safe, cheap and eco-friendly. You can use large jars to store things like flour or grains, medium for salat and small for some kind of desserts. They are perfect for storing soups or smoothies, too.

Glass and steel food containers

Those are great for storing your food at home as well as to pack your lunch and take it to work or school. They are more expensive than plastic packages, but you can wash them in dishwasher, heat in microwave and they just last longer. Besides, they look great!

Burlap sacks

Storing food like onions or potatoes may seem difficult if it’s not in your garden, but here is the solution – burlap sacks! It provides a dark and dry environment and it’s made from woven plant fibres – you can even compost them. Isn’t that wonderful?

Beeswax wraps

Usually we cover our food with aluminium foil before putting it in the fridge, so it won’t dry. Why can’t we use beeswax wrap for that? It’s malleable enough to mould around the top of bowl and ecological – you can wash it and use it multiple times.

Lace bags

All those things are great, but how you pack in them fruits or bread? Well, you can use some old lace curtains and make DIY bags from them. They are transparent, so the cashier can see what you put there and they won’t make you pay more because of their weight – they are very light.

Bento-bags
